Welcome to the Shartau Lab at the University of Texas at Tyler!
About the lab
Research in the Shartau Lab investigates the physiological mechanisms utilized by animals in response to natural and anthropogenic-driven environmental challenges. Key areas of research in the lab investigate acid-base and ion regulatory physiology of aquatic animals to understand how they tolerate environmental stressors, especially in response to high CO2. The other area is investigating the physiology of fishes in response to harmful algal, particularly within an aquaculture setting. Please explore our website to learn more about the work we do! There are two new MS opportunities related to crayfish starting in Fall 2024 1 - Aggregation and collation of Texas crayfish records to determine their current conservation statuses (co-supervised by Dr. Josh Banta) 2 - Environmental tolerances and habitat association of critically imperiled crayfish in Texas Please see the Opportunities page for more information email: rshartau@uttyler.edu
